About The Show

The Great Mr. Swindle's Traveling Peculiarium is an award-winning touring theatrical production presented under our custom-built, climate-controlled Boutique Big Top. Combining world-class circus artistry, comedy, music, and immersive storytelling, the Peculiarium has entertained audiences across Florida since 2018 and continues to expand into new markets.

We are seeking an experienced Production Technician (Lighting, Audio & Show Systems) to oversee the technical operation of the production while traveling with the company throughout the season.

Position Overview

This position is responsible for the lighting, audio, video, networking, and show control systems throughout the tour, from the initial load-in to the final load-out. The successful candidate will operate the show, maintain the equipment, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure every performance runs smoothly.

We are a small touring production where everyone contributes. This is a hands-on working position, not a supervisory role. The successful candidate should be comfortable taking ownership of the technical operation while actively participating in every aspect of setup, operation, maintenance, and teardown.

The production's lighting and audio systems are professionally designed and documented before the tour begins. The Production Technician is responsible for implementing those designs, operating the show, maintaining the equipment, and accurately recreating the production at each tour stop. Consistency is essential. The goal is to ensure every audience experiences the same high-quality production throughout the season.

We value technicians who enjoy improving systems where they are needed and helping the production evolve. Suggestions for future improvements are encouraged and welcomed.

Responsibilities

  • Operate all lighting, audio, and show control systems during performances.
  • Execute all lighting and sound cues accurately and consistently.
  • Lead the setup and teardown of all lighting, audio, networking, video, and show control equipment.
  • Personally participate in every load-in and load-out by lifting, assembling, cabling, testing, troubleshooting, and organizing equipment.
  • Read, interpret, and accurately implement lighting plots, wiring diagrams, signal flow diagrams, cable schedules, and equipment layouts prepared for the production.
  • Assemble, cable, patch, configure, and test all production systems.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain the ETC Eos lighting system, Midas M32R digital mixing console, QLab, and all associated lighting, audio, networking, and show control equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair lighting, audio, networking, video, and electrical systems as needed.
  • Ensure the technical systems are rebuilt consistently and presented to the same standard at every venue.
  • Maintain the integrity of the production by faithfully reproducing the established technical design throughout the tour.
  • Maintain all production equipment in clean, organized, and show-ready condition, and perform routine maintenance and inspections.
  • Start and stop a stationary video camera to record each performance for archival purposes.
  • Evaluate technical systems and recommend future improvements that enhance reliability, efficiency, or the guest experience.
  • Work closely with performers and management to ensure smooth daily operations, and assist with other production-related duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Professional experience with theatrical, concert, or touring lighting and audio systems.
  • Ability to read and accurately implement lighting plots, wiring diagrams, patch sheets, and signal flow documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills involving lighting, audio, DMX, networking, video, and show control.
  • Comfortable using ladders, hand tools, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work during load-ins and load-outs.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Professional attitude with a strong work ethic and dependable attendance.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently.
  • Comfortable living and working with a small touring company for the duration of the season.

Preferred Experience

Experience with any of the following is a plus. Experience with comparable professional systems is welcome.

  • ETC Eos lighting control system
  • Midas M32R digital mixing console
  • QLab
  • DMX distribution and networking
  • Basic audio system tuning and troubleshooting
  • Show control systems
  • Basic networking (wired and wireless)
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting
  • Touring theatre, circus, concerts, or live event production

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation of $1,200 to $1,400 per week, depending on experience.
  • Private accommodations throughout the tour.
  • The opportunity to travel with a unique, nationally touring theatrical production.
  • A collaborative environment where your ideas and technical expertise are valued.
  • The opportunity to help shape the future technical development of a growing production.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who enjoys building and running shows, not just maintaining them. The ideal candidate is hands-on, self-motivated, and takes ownership of the technical operation. They enjoy solving problems, thinking ahead, and continuously looking for ways to improve systems and processes for future seasons.

Just as importantly, they understand the importance of consistency. Every audience deserves the same high-quality experience, and the successful candidate takes pride in faithfully reproducing the established production at every stop on the tour.

Because we are a small touring production, we're looking for someone who isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves. If you're the type of technician who enjoys building, creating, improving, troubleshooting, and taking ownership of your work while being an integral part of a close-knit team, we'd love to hear from you.
